Hey, i'm gracie!
As a mental health therapist by trade, I approach photography as an art of emotions and people. My background in clinical social work allows me to read the room, tell an honest story with my camera, and really see people.
I’m deeply inspired by film photography—my favorite images are filled with warmth, nostalgia, and a little (or a lot of) grain. I bring this essence of film to my digital work as well - creating a hybrid gallery that mixes the old and new.
I describe my style as photojournalistic, true to color, and usually a touch of whimsy! If you feel anxious just by the thought of being in front of a camera - good news, you are normal! I don't need (or want) to work with models. My approach is relational for a reason - the more we connect, the more you can be yourself in front of the camera.
FAQ
HOW DO I RECEIVE MY PHOTOS?
All images will be delivered via an online gallery (Pixieset) with the option to download, create favorite lists, and easily share with your loved ones. Be sure to download the images instead of screenshotting - I promise you can tell the difference!
What is the difference between film and digital?
One of my favorite things to yap about! Film images are created with light-sensitive chemicals on physical rolls of film, which are developed and scanned by a professional lab. Because the process is entirely analog, film has a magic to it that is hard to describe in words. The aesthetic includes grain, depth, dreamy tones, and imperfections that make each image unique. Digital images are captured and processed electronically, which takes a lot of the guesswork out of it and often yields more crisp, predictable results. I love combining both formats to create a final gallery that feels professional while still emotive!
How long does it take to get our photos?
For work outside of weddings, you will receive 10+ preview photos within 48 hours and the full gallery within 4-5 weeks. For weddings, you will receive 20+ preview photos within 48 hours of your wedding and your full gallery in 6-8 weeks.
How do I print my photos?
You are welcome to print your downloaded photos at the shop of your choice. If printing, be sure to select the option with the highest resolution when you download from Pixieset. For larger prints, I recommend Fast Foto in Bloomington, MN. For smaller prints, I recommend Mpix Lab or Infiki (the square paper prints with the white border are my fav!)
Do you travel?
YES! If you are getting married somewhere on my dream destination list (Oregon Coast, Portland Maine, Mexico City, many more!) I will cover my own travel expenses. Reach out to see if this could be the case!
DO YOU BACKUP YOUR PHOTOS?
Absolutely 100% - I shoot all digital images on a dual slot camera, meaning your photos are backed up on a second SD card in the rare case of card malfunction. All images are immediately backed up onto an external hard drive.
What should we wear for our session?
Wear what you feel most like yourself in! My favorite photos usually involve texture, color, and pattern. Don't be afraid to express yourself. For those who want more inspo, I've created this Pinterest board!
what if I feel awkward during my session?
Good news - you're a normal human being! I try to keep things interactive by giving prompts that involve movement and emotion vs. stiff poses. I find that most people feel tense for the first 5-10 minutes, but after we break the ice, it can be surprisingly fun! I recommend coming to your session with an open attitude and willingness to be expressive. Sometimes we have to swallow our pride (especially when taking photos in public), but if you lean into the vulnerability, it can feel quite freeing!
